What to send first

  1. 1

What make, model and age is the current boiler, and is it a combi, system or regular boiler?

  2. 2

How many bedrooms and bathrooms does the property have?

Replacing a boiler is a big spend, so Andrew starts by checking whether the old one can sensibly be repaired. If it is unsafe, beyond economic repair or parts are no longer available, he will explain why and recommend a replacement that suits the house.

Choosing the right boiler

The right boiler depends on the size of the property, how many bathrooms you have, the radiators, the flue position and whether you have a hot water cylinder. A combi suits many homes, while a house with higher demand may be better with a system or regular boiler and a cylinder. Andrew works with established makers such as Worcester Bosch, Baxi and Ideal.

Fitting and handover

Before the new boiler goes in, the system may need a power flush and a filter so it starts clean. Once it is fitted, the boiler is commissioned, notified to Building Control as the regulations require, and Andrew shows you how to use the controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you qualified to fit a new boiler?
Yes. Andrew is on the Gas Safe Register, number 306633, which any boiler installation requires.
How do I know it is time to replace my boiler?
Frequent breakdowns, parts that are hard to get and a failing heat exchanger are the usual signs. Andrew will give you a straight answer after looking at it.
Can I switch from a regular boiler to a combi?
Often, yes, and it frees up the airing cupboard. It depends on your mains water pressure and how much hot water the household uses at once, which Andrew checks when he surveys the job.
How do I get a price for a new boiler?
Send a few photos and details of the house, then Andrew will arrange to look at the job and give you a written quote.
