What to send first

  1. 1

What is happening: no heating at all, some rooms cold, or heating that will not switch off?

  2. 2

What controls do you have (thermostat, programmer, smart controls)?

  3. 3

Do you have a combi boiler or a hot water cylinder?

Not every heating fault is the boiler. If the boiler fires but the house stays cold, the problem is often elsewhere in the system: a stuck motorised valve, a failed pump, a thermostat or programmer that has stopped talking to the boiler, or radiators that are airlocked or badly balanced.

What Andrew checks

He works through the system in order, from the controls to the boiler, the pump and valves, then out to the radiators, so the repair goes to the part that has actually failed. On systems with a hot water cylinder, he also checks the zone valves that split heating and hot water.

Typical repairs

Common fixes include replacing a pump or motorised valve, swapping a faulty room thermostat or wireless receiver, freeing a sticking radiator valve and rebalancing radiators so the far rooms warm up too. If sludge is behind the problem, a power flush may be the longer-term answer, and faults inside the boiler itself are covered under boiler repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

My boiler is working but the radiators are cold. Why?
That usually points to a pump, a motorised valve or a controls fault rather than the boiler itself. Andrew will trace it before changing anything.
Only some of my radiators heat up. Can you fix that?
Yes. It is often air, sludge or a system that needs balancing. Bleeding and balancing the radiators fixes many cases; heavy sludge may need a flush.
Can you replace faulty heating controls?
Yes. A thermostat or programmer that has failed can be replaced with a modern one that works with your boiler.
Will a heating repair mean lifting floors?
Rarely. Most parts that fail, like pumps, valves and controls, sit near the boiler or cylinder and are easy to reach.
