A new gas cooker or hob must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Andrew connects freestanding cookers, range cookers and built-in hobs, and disconnects old ones when a kitchen is being replaced.
How the connection is made
Freestanding and range cookers are normally connected with a flexible hose and a bayonet fitting, with a stability chain or bracket so the cooker cannot tip forward. Built-in hobs are usually connected with rigid pipe. He checks there is an isolation valve within reach, makes the connection, tests the supply for leaks and checks the burners light and burn properly.
Before you book
It helps to have the appliance delivered and in place, with its installation manual. If the gas supply needs moving to reach the new position, that is priced as gas work. Landlords can have a new appliance checked as part of a landlord gas safety inspection.
